We harvested some Yacon roots from the cinder block raised bed. They seem to have done as well as anticipated after reading about other NW growers having success. We hope to devote more space to them this coming season.
There are still a fair number of apples on the local trees including our heirloom apple tree. The elk have been around a couple of days in the past weeks to scarf up what has fallen.
The tea seeds arrived stateside, were shipped to us and we picked them up today. We purchased three clonal varieties from Teacraft Ltd. through The Great Mississippi Tea Company.
As suggested by the more experienced growers, mostly on the East Coast, we will soak them and sow them immediately. Most of them will be placed in our ‘winter box’ that I’ve almost completed with a framed plastic cover. As I’ve decided to try a few methods of germination, they will not all be put into conetainers so I expect I will need to keep some in the barn workroom over winter.
