Douglas Fir Resin Salve

The Douglas fir resin we collected a few weeks ago (January 2nd post) has been turned into a healing salve. The process for making this salve was quite easy.
The next day the infusion was warmed back to a liquid state and then strained to remove bits of debris out of the mixture. One half part of bees wax pastilles was added to the infused oil and melted. As the liquid salve cooled it was poured into containers where it solidified.
Our indigenous resins such as Douglas Fir have many properties of better known and studied resins such as frankincense or myrrh and are extolled as analgesics and antiseptics. Sites such as eatkamloops and Apothecary's Garden suggest resins are helpful during the colder months for respiratory problems, that they can help with sleep and relaxation, they can soothe sore and aching muscles, they can diminish inflammation, and they can protect and smooth dry and aging skin.
