Reclaimed Fencing, Aqua Veggies

The new owners of a farm down in Harlan, about ten miles away, needed to remove an older cedar fence and graciously allowed us to take some of the boards if we disassembled them. It was pretty slow and tedious to try to salvage the fence boards, mostly due to the effort required to pry apart the boards held in place with stainless, ring shank nails, while trying not to damage them. We were originally only going to use some for a wall in a room we were refurbishing upstairs in the barn.
But we decided they would make an excellent exterior for our fancy outhouse. Unfortunately, the boards varied in width, length, and even thickness. So it was slow work even after sorting them by width in order to have multiple boards in a single row match. We started to clean them up as needed, with a bit of sanding, but decided to leave them mostly weathered with lighter patches made by the sanding. The overall effect was worth the effort. Now we just need to add some presevative?
Our aquaponics system is still chugging along. Unfortunately, with the past restaurant and gathering restrictions, we haven't been selling our produce. We have been giving some away to friends and neighbors and finding more creative ways to use the excess ourselves. Even so, the system has not been getting a lot of attention this year. It is also over eight years old and in need of some rebuilding, most importantly a new plastic covering (although we were quite happy to have the greenhouse fabric last that long!). These are a couple pics of the basil, kale, and collards currently growing.
