A Hawk, a Walnut and the Restroom

We had a red-tailed hawk perched atop the tall Douglas Fir next to our barn for a bit this morning. I assume she was a female due to the size (generally larger) but I'm uncertain. She was perched nearly 200 feet off the ground so my meandering below didn't bother her too much.

I covered a couple walnuts with mesh to try to let them mature before the birds ate them. I wanted to save a half dozen to start some new trees next spring. Later this fall, when they were starting to change color and the birds were tearing even the mesh, I pulled them off the tree along with a piece of each branch and stuck the branches in a bucket of water to let them ripen a bit more, if needed. Unfortunately the birds found them there and ate all but two.

Although I an doing the majority of work on the restroom myself, and considering my aging and lack of a better skill set, the restroom is coming along. The exterior is reasonably closed up against the elements and most of the exterior wall insulation is fitted and sealed in place.
