Yacon and Seeds

I am slowly getting a number of seeds started in the workroom. Although the mister (showed a video of it earlier) does a fairly good job, it does have uneven coverage. Some of the seed trays will be soaked while others are drying out on the top. And, as most of the seeds are suggested to be surface sown, that is presenting a problem. I have a set of misters attached to tubing that I had used for my large aeroponics chamber. I'll see if it provided more even coverage after finding the required fittings to interface it.


The top picture is a view of the Andean plants that I've tried to over-winter. The Yacons are furthest back behind the black felt bag. The black felt bag contains the Crosnes whose top had died off a few weeks back and which has not yet shown new growth from the remaining tubers. The plants closest to the camera are Mashua. They are showing some stress from either the low temperatures in the aqua house, or a lack of fertilizer. I have been watering them with the aquaponics water which does contain some nutrients although they are fairly low right now with the lack of a sufficient number of fish.
The bottom picture shows the one Yacon sprouting well from its crown pieces. I had pulled that one apart to check for tubers and broke the crown into several pieces which I reinserted into the dirt in the bag to keep them from drying out. I could easily break these four pieces into a dozen or more, each with multiple sprouts starting. I may not get all the time I need to set up an area into which to transplant these!
